BREED HISTORY

The Boerboel is a dog of African origin. Since European colonization in 1652, dogs used on African farms began to cross with others taken by the colonists, such as Mastiff, Bulldog, which resulted centuries later, in the Boerboel breed that is still in the process of breeding. Famous in South Africa for being very protective watchdogs, without being aggressive, Boerboel dogs are affectionate domestic companions. They like to be close to family members and have fun.

BREED CHARACTERISTICS

Each animal is unique, but they all have features in common. Boerboel dogs are big, proportionate, strong, powerful and with a well developed musculature. Its body is short and wide, its head is flat and wide. The ears are of medium size, being well separated from each other and falling in a "V" shape. The coat colors that are accepted are brindle, fawn, dark red and brown; they may or may not have a black mask. The black color is in the process of being accepted by the competent authorities. It is a large and active breed, the Boerboel needs a large and well fenced yard. They also need daily walks to maintain their physical and mental health. Boerboel dogs have a strong neck, deep chest and their tails are short. In behavioral terms, Boerboel are intelligent, balanced, self-assured, faithful, obedient and affectionate to their owners. Excellent dogs for children, playful with the members of their family, having a huge protective and guardian instinct with theirs. For other dogs it maintains dominant posture, and imposes respect.
